Shorter Fiction Review: Ponies by Kij Johnson (2010)

Title: Ponies
Author: Kij Johnson

One Word Review: Disturbing.

One Line Review:  Takes the angst of fitting in and being popular to an extreme expression.

One Paragraph Review: it’s a snippet that introduces us to a rite of passage for girls and their ponies though these ponies have cotton candy blood with wings, a horn and can talk. The invite shows the wings and horn being cut off. Without spoiling it too much it’s a story of compliance and socialisation and one that gets its message across loud and clear.
